GREENSAND RESIDENCY

Townsend Woods, Wiltshire, July 2022

Greensand Residency is a collaboration between artist and lecturer Claire Loder, and Found Outdoors CIC as part of Bath Spa University’s Knowledge Exchange programme.

The aim of the residency is to facilitate 13 artist participants in exploring their relationship with the more-than-human world and the the overlap between art and ecology and how that connection impacts arts practice.

Following an introductory session where we found out about the woodlands and each other, we each set off to explore the site, and see what we happened upon, before coming back together to share our discoveries........

DO YOU LIKE IT DOWN HERE

Down here, the green is sometimes
yellow in parts
birdsfoot trefoil        creeping buttercup
cackle and chirp and
prickle fingertips

down here, in the days thirst, green
comes over all listless, and
floppy, and so rests as
critters rub themselves on themselves
in a high-pitched percussion of knees
and there is always a swaying here and there
a green kind of swaying that has
its own tempo
where this becomes that, and
no one thing makes itself         by itself

down here, humans sometimes throw off
their shoes in the green heat
and submit to the smallness     of things
in the long grass
trying to become invisible except
for green

down here
sometimes the hovering things
ask questions like
do you like it down here,
where we live?
