QUANTOCKS ART WALK

Coleridge Way, Quantocks, Autumn 2021

Art walk and talk with artist Tom Bailey who creates live performance work as Mechanimal - exploring life on a changing planet. As part of Arnolfini’s series of artist conversations pairing up artists with overlapping interests.

I was given this lichen walk leaflet by lichenologist and Nettlecombe resident Pat Wolseley during a field trip there as part of my Year in the Life of a Field project. So this meeting seemed a great opportunity to do the walk and to see what we encountered on our route.  Possibly not really expecting to find any or many of these fine featured organisms in the deep thicket of the Quantocks woodlands, Pat’s descriptions of how and where to find them were so detailed, that it was relatively easy to discover several of the species in the leaflet.

Along our walk, in conversation with the landscape and each other, we created several slight interventions, as well as observing those that nature had created itself.
